The Cancer Research UK Science Blog has become one of the organisation’s most important platform for communicating with the public about new developments in cancer research, as well as combating irresponsible media coverage of cancer and common cancer misconceptions. A major relaunch of the WordPress-based blog in November 2013 set out to improve the user experience (particularly on mobile devices) to boost engagement, incorporate the blog into the main Cancer Research UK branding and make it more discoverable by promoting it in key areas of the main website. The blog now consistently sees more than 100,000 sessions per month and is widely cited on social media. Jim Bowes CEO of Manifesto Digtal presents alongside Henry Scowcroft, News and Multimedia Manager, Press and Science Comms, CRUK, who’ll be able to provide insight into the unique challenges of presenting cancer science in an accessible way for users. I’ll talk about supporting such a content strategy with a solid technology platform.
