Abortion Support Network is an abortion fund, helping women from Ireland and Northern Ireland travel to England to access a safe and legal abortion. The lack of legal provision in these countries does not mean that abortion does not happen, it means that disproportionately poor and immigrant women are affected. In order to obtain a termination, they need to travel to England. We help them with money for travel and procedures, and offer a place to stay with volunteers.

The goal of abortion funds is to run out of money each month – meaning we’ve given out everything we have to help women who need it. So when I say we operate on a tiny budget, it’s often zero, and leaves little left for web development. I’d like to explain how we do it on a shoestring.

ASN uses WordPress to run our website, enabling women to securely contact us, and to take single & recurring donations. We launched a re-design last year. I’d like to talk through that, and the implications for an organisation’s website where security is a major concern.
